Postoperative recovery is a critical phase following surgery, during which patients face a range of challenges, including managing pain, preventing infections, and ensuring mobility (Adelakun et al., 2024). Nurse-led interventions have proven to play a vital role in enhancing postoperative recovery by providing personalized care, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and educating patients about self-care and wound management (Amosu & Adejumo, 2023). In Niger State, while surgical procedures are increasingly common, there is limited research on the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions on postoperative recovery outcomes, despite the integral role nurses play in patient care (Shittu et al., 2024).
Nurse-led interventions are particularly crucial in resource-limited settings where there may be a shortage of physicians or specialized care providers. These interventions can include promoting early mobilization, ensuring proper nutrition, managing pain, and providing psychological support (Ibrahim et al., 2023). Understanding how these interventions influence recovery outcomes can help optimize the quality of care and improve patient outcomes in Niger State hospitals.
This study aims to evaluate the impact of nurse-led interventions on postoperative recovery outcomes, focusing on patients who have undergone various types of surgery in Niger State hospitals.
Despite the critical role of nurses in postoperative care, there is little documented evidence of the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions on postoperative recovery outcomes in Niger State. Ineffective recovery management can result in complications such as delayed healing, prolonged hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs. This study seeks to fill the knowledge gap by evaluating the role of nurse-led interventions in improving recovery outcomes for surgical patients in Niger State.
The study will focus on surgical patients in hospitals in Niger State who have undergone different types of surgery. It will assess the impact of various nurse-led interventions, including pain management, wound care, and early mobilization. Limitations include the potential for variation in nursing practices across different hospitals in Niger State and challenges in tracking long-term recovery outcomes.
